Support Aursee

Aursee is free to read. It runs on one server.

What it does

Every hour it queries NASA FIRMS for VIIRS 375 m detections from three satellites — Suomi-NPP, NOAA-20 and NOAA-21 — groups them into fires, and rebuilds 2,406 pages across 63 countries. Each figure carries its instrument, its resolution and its error bar.

What the money already pays for

Every picture below is redrawn from the live feed each hour, so what you are looking at is this morning, not a screenshot.

Lightning, and whether anyone was looking
Lightning, and whether anyone was lookingA flash within 25 km in the day before a fire was first seen, and a coverage flag, so no flash never quietly means no instrument.
Has this ground burned before

A map inside every email
A map inside every emailThe picture is drawn and attached to the message rather than loaded from a server, so it shows up even with remote images turned off.
Your account, your call

Where the money goes

The satellite data itself is public and free. NASA FIRMS, ESA WorldCover, NOAA GOES, GRIP4 and Open-Meteo cost nothing to query; the cost is in running the thing that queries them every hour and never stops.

Contributions are not open yet. When they are, the button here will hand you to a payment provider; nothing is ever taken on this site and this page will never hold a card field.

Other ways

Report a beach, send a photograph of a fire you can see, or write to contact@aursee.org and tell us what the instrument got wrong. A correction is worth more than most donations.
